Transitioning
Life is full of transitions: Day into night, one year into the next, one stage of life into another. Many cultures mark transitions with ritual and celebration. As a whole, our culture itself has transitioned away from ritual and now only the celebration remains. However, ritual helps us through times of change, preparing us for the next phase in life. Here we are at the last day of 2024. We have arrived at a doorway. We can step through that doorway with intentionality or just plainly step through.
In the Yogic and Ayurvedic traditions, the Bhrama muhurta is the time of transition between night and day. It literally means, “Bhrama’s Time.” It is seen as the most sacred and most quiet time of the day. It is considered to be the best time for meditation and sadhana/practice. Because everything is quiet and still then, so is your mind. There is something magical about witnessing that transition of darkness turning into daylight. There is also a spaciousness that exists in the places in between, the places that are neither “this” or “that.” When I do my practices before sunrise it always sets my intentions for the day. It actually sets the tone of my entire day, nourishing and sustaining me throughout the day. I like to see the end one year into the next as the big Bhrama muhurta. A time to contemplatively move through the threshold and step into somewhere else.
So, here we are at the doorway between 2024 and 2025. How are you going to step through?
